The Dandy design on the shell came from Mongo's Vergara. Dandy called me and asked if I could send him close up photos. Dandy met Mongo when he was 5 yrs. old. Mongo and Dandy's dad "La Vaca" were tight friends. Many times the T Puente Latin Jazz group and Mongo's group played together in NYC in places such as the Blue Note, the Village Gate. Every time they played together Dandy asked Mongo if he could play the Vergara. Dandy also as a youth live in LA when his dad played with Liberace, Dandy spent his summers at Tom Flores shop. As a tribute to Santamatia and Flores, on Dandy's orders, LP developed the Dandy Rodriguez, the hardware is Valje the shell was made to look like Mongo's Vergara.
