Tonio, I also have one Lp Valje about 22 years old, very lite, good average sound. The other 2 Bongos have Mule and steer skins. Volcano Bongos have a wood lacquer or finish that I do not like,it looks like the formica over the kitchen furniture tops. I should be getting another El Piernas Bongó around the midle of August, one of my coworker mother is from Colombia and she is overthere right now. She has a picture of the 1 I want but let see what she comes back with.

The Isla's I see at Carlos Aldamas class I take look great, and sound real good.

No one I know in San Francisco has a set of moperc's, I remember seeing someone post about their set of Mopercs, I guess it was OZ.

I plan on ordering a set of 2 conguero congas in the fall, after I harvest my medical medicine :;): and maybe a set of those cubano bongos's, but I have another set of bongos on order from resolution drums at the moment.

Good news Tonio, I know how anxiety will get on you after Monday. On my side the mother of my friend has just returned from Colombia with my new El Piernas, she told about 3 hours ago that she was getting ready to go to the post office to send the package. I should get it around Tuesday next week. In the mean time take 2 of café & 2 of sugar (tres de café y dos de azucar ).

Tonio I know that feeling. Why does it takes so long to get a shipment from Canada ? My is Comming from N.Y hopefully will be here at least Tuesday. I just got my Moperc back with a very thick Cow skin on the Hembra installed by my friend at Timbas del Valle, the Macho has a Mule skin. I wish I could be giging tonight but the Salsa scene has been a rollercoster for everybody, last wendnesday at El Criollo Club 1 of the singer from Roberto Roena Apollo Sound got on the stage with us,he said that they have not play in 2 month.

I was talking to the Club owner and he got every wendnesday book until December but I told him about keeping quality bands playing at the Club because bringing bands that are so so will not do any good for the Club.

Caballo, Well, at about $75 it will take 6-10 days, I could have him ship it quicker, but we are then talking over $100 easy. I suppose its the distance and the fuel prices .

Moperc is close to Vermont, and I'm way down here close to Mexico, which is actually quite far. I think with Pr, they have no choice but air freight, so they maybe have a discount for deffering the ride.

Anyway, here's my Salsa Club bongo (without the logo as of this morning)

Those bongos look the business, that is some serious hardware, and clean...

check how the wood that connects the drums is inset within the thickness of the shell.........very innovative!

That is a beautiful Bongó. My is yellow with flat black painted hardware. The way Michel insert the center block into the wood make the Bongó more resistant to break at that point. I went one step further and have a metal plate install on both side of the inside of the shells.

BTW the new EL Piernas has arrive, solid & heavy SOB, as soon as I get home he will be tested, thus far the hembra skin is too tin but I got a thick steer skin at home waiting. I can always mount that hembra skin into a Macho hoop.

Michel let me know that the shipped my bongos via expresspost-meaning delivery in 3-5 days, so I should get it by tuesday at the latest thursday next week !! So the price isn;'t too bad afterall.

Now get this, he is shipping an extra flesh hoop and skin for the macho!!
 :D saying that they need replacing the most -wow how great is that?
I am totally elated. Michel and Moperc is top notch !!

Will update after getting my paws on the Salsa club bongos !!

Tonio, those are good news,by the look of the skin on the picture they look like superior top quality. I still have the macho skin that came with mine. Yesterday I took the new El Piernas to get a thicker Cow skin install on the Hembra. The one installed although is a good one is too tin for my sound taste, I told Papo from Timbas del Valle to install the one mounted on the hembra on the Macho that way I would have another skin ready . I should get it back on Tuesday.

I finally got mi Moperc Salsa Club Bongos !!
Piccies below. Note the bearing edge mmmm mmm, nice and round and centered-not on edge, giving a nice and round tone !! Not to mention the pleasure to play them, vs LP's razor sharp edge, hopefully you can see the difference.
The hembra is awesome, not to say the macho is any less. The more you tune up, the louder it gets vs the mass produced stuff gets dry and dead when you crank it up. The volume is oustanding, it really cuts, but in a warm way. they will probably project amply in a acoustic setting.
The playability is comfortable, somewhat heavy but its comfy. The bearing edge seals the deal for playing. I spent a few hours today with them, and I must say these bongos are inspiring.
Craftmanship is outstanding, meticulous, beautiful. The stainless steel hardware is not smooth & shiny, but has a esoteric flavor with precision. The ashwwod is in natural with a gloss finish. I should have taken a picture frm the bottom to show the cylindricalness (is that a word? :D) . The inset of the the connecting wood piece is innovative and solid.
The extra hoop and skin which Michel graciously offered at no charge is supportive a great percusion maker. The hoop itself is a larger gauge than any I have seen. The skin, is typical of Canadian cow or steer I suppose, quite different from USA cowhide that I am aquaintaed with. It seems to be more dense and stable, perhaps harder.
Now the tone, what can I say? It is totally Salsa, dry with nice projection. Its just got that old school thing going on and not tinny like many mass produced bongos.
I for one am a happy camper. Michel & Moperc is the deal !!
Now about his congas.... I do have a set of Isla's coming soon. but I would love to hear & play a set of Moperc congas.

Moperc Salsa Club bongos are two big thumbs up from me!!

Tony
