Hello.

I have a pair of oak Valje bongos I bought seconhand in 1984 in Portland, Oregon.
I am considering selling them, but I want to know how much I should ask for.
They have been refurbished by me. And small cracks(nicks glued. Sanded, oiled and waxed.
New lugs from Ralph Flores.

Nice bongos and good question. I'm thinking about selling my collection of great bongos but really don't have a clue about how to price them. In bongoland there doesn't seem to be the concept of how much they are "worth". Just how much they cost and how much someone is willing to pay. I quess if they were mine I'd put them on Ebay for about $1500 with a "make offer" and see what happens. If no bites, wait a bit and relist them for a bit more, not less. Its a weird game, selling instruments, especially bongo drums. I had a great oversize concert Valje that I sold to someone on this board for $350, he immediately put it on Ebay for $750 and sold it right away. I actually felt a bit ripped-off by that. I sold it to him to play because he was a member on this board not to sell. I could have sold it myself for a lot more. So ---------

Thanks for sharing your experiences, and nice to hear from you! I hope you are doing well in these troubled times.

In my opinion there's no need to feed potential flippers with information regarding selling prices etc., especially not first-time posters. Any specialist forum community I know frowns upon those kinds of requests. Just saying.
