BONGOS in YEMENI MUSIC - Demo by Isaac

This is my Youtube Video demonstrating
the Lahej Rhythm from Southern Yemen.
Laheji is a regional style in the same way you have
a different feel in say Matanzas vs Havana or Santiago.
There are a few ways to play it.
Typically it's 2 drummers or more, Oud/Vocals and Chorus,
with syncopated handclapping (like the Palmas in Flamenco).
It's party music for weddings & festivals all over Yemen.
I play this rhythm and other Yemeni styles with my Yemeni Ensemble in New York. We have some performances coming up
so if any of you are in town I can let you know the dates.
We'll be part of the Maqam Music Festival.

Very cool, Isaac. Thanks for sharing. I'll definitely hit that up on today's practice. Can see it applying to other musical grooves, too.
