I JUST GOT THIS BONGOS ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO. THIS IS A JAY BARRETT SKIN ON SKIN BONGOS.

MEASUREMENTS ON THIS BONGOS ARE 6 3/4" X 9". IT HAS PAN CON QUESO SKINS ON IT. IT HAS AN INCREDIBLE SOUND. I HAVE PLAYED 7 TIMES IN LIKE 2 WEEKS. I LOVE THIS BABY. THANKS MARIO FOR THIS BONGO. ENJOY THIS PICTURE

Really nice bongos. Skin On Skin are awesome! I also love the congas. I had a set of 4. I wish I still had them.

It's interesting that the macho has a thicker shell than the hembra. My Sonoc bongos have this type of construction as well whereas the mass producers (LP,Meinl etc.) seem to use a uniform thickness for the two drums.

Vay Julito,
I got a pair just like them that I had Jay make for me. They sound incredible, are very durable and they are not that heavy. Very rare and hard to find, as Jay does not make that many bongos, he mainly makes congas. His bongoces are very desirable.

Hola Coco, a thicker Macho shell can sustain more preassure than a thinner one, that is the reason of why so many mass produce Bongos have CRACKS, they just can take the preassure . The Moperc Bongoó which I have, has a 3/4" thick Macho shell made of Ash wood.
Julito, that is beautiful piece of art but for my big hands the Macho is too small. May be in the future when other people own that Brand, pros & contras & is road tested I may buy one. On the mean time, enjoy, play a lot, tunned High so we can know how good is it.
Giging tonight at El Balcon del Zumbador ( Love Bird Balcony). Using for the gig tonight, my 80s El Piernas vintage Bongó.

SOS bongos have been tested by the best bongoceros. Dandy Rodriguez, Jimmy Delgado, Johnny Almendra. Ask Pablito "El Indio" Rosario, el esta' en PR.
Jay can make you a macho any size you want. In the league of an Ismael, a JCR and a Junior, They don't make any better.

Oye Caballoballo seems to mee that "El Balcon De Zumbador" or the "Hummingbird Balcony" is really happening. Do you guys kind of cut loose (descarga) when you play there or play like a standard repertoire of salsa in the pocket? Rompa El Cuero Compay!

Tumba Timba, I did not take any pictures of last night gig but there are many pictures of the group where I play, they are in the open discussion part of the forum under the post gig photos.
Ritmo , we play for the dancer but sometimes during some parts of the themes we have solos . The repertory we have been playing is classic salsa but not the common salsa in the pocket that other groups play. We copy arragements from groups of the golden salsa era, our own original themes & some other selected songs.
We have a process to select what we want to copy, first we will check how is the clave across the theme ( some groups from the 70s like The Lebrons Brothers & La Conspiracion to name a few use to get off beat with the clave a lot during their recordings, tocaban cruzao) , then I will Dance the song with my Lady to check if it is danceable , then we play along the song to check the feeling , if all that is pass & everybody agrees then it is send to a friend who will do the arragement. There are many groups around just playing the same, we try to be different.

The dance deal with your lady is part of the song selection process , that's a real good one, after all you are playing to make folks dance. You right lots of recording groups back during the salsa golden days "tocaban cruzao" mainly in the beginning of their careers but got to give it to them they swung with "mucho masacote" like nobody's business. Keep on Keeping The Rhythm Alive!
