LP GENERATION III BONGOS

Postby Thebreeze » Thu Apr 03, 2008 12:02 am

Hi to all. I am trying to find some Bongo Rims for a set of Bongos that I am planning on modifiying. Does anyone out there have a set of LP GEN 3? . If so, can you be so kind as to tell me the outside diameter measurements of both rims?
Thanks very much. If the rims are what I am looking for then I will let you know in case someone out there has a set that they can part with and would like to sell or trade for them.

Breeze, I can not tell you the measurements of the Lp crowns but the Meinl woodcrafts are 7" 3/8 & 9" 3/8 crown inside diameter. Those readings were taken by BNB who has a set. You can buy those thru musician friend as a special order.

Arre Caballo..thanks alot. Thanks also to BNB. I will research those measurements today to see if they will work.
If anyone can still get the LP gen 3 measurements I will still appreciate it. But for now I have something to work with. I did not realize that the meinls had those size heads.
Thanks

Hope it helps, I know the online company called
thedrumworks.com sells replacement Meinl parts.

They are based close by in San Jose I think.

I do know the Meinl Woodcraft hardware is very high quality.

I just measured my bongos and it's going to be close. Too close for me to pay for the rims and find out they are just a little small. Anyway, thanks. I will know better once I take the existing head and rim off the Hembra so I can get a better measurement. The bongos I am referring to are a red set of mambizas that I posted a while back and after some comments were made about how low the rims went below the bearing edge I decided to see if I could replace the rims with traditionals. I will keep looking. Dario gave me some good info on some bongo makers in Columbia and I will go that route as a last resort. ( just want to try to work this all out domestically if possible.)
Thanks.
p.s...If anyone can give me the lp gen 3 rim measurements, I would also appreciate it.

Well, I can give you the measurements of the O.D. of the rims on the LP Gen III's that I have, BUT the ones I have are the triple's and not the dual's..... that might make a difference!
But if it doesn't matter for the larger two sizes on the triple set, what I have is:

small: 6-1/4"
medium: 7-7/8" (don't know if this is the same size as the macho on the dual's or not)
large: 9-3/4", or possibly 9-13/16 (don't know if this is the same size as the hembra on the dual's or not)

Don't know if that helps, but that's all the help I can give. If dual's are different and you don't get an answer here, then keep an eye peeled on eBay and ask your question of the seller.

BNB,

I've been to TheDrumWorks.com. That's where I bought my Fat Congas String Cajon.

They're actually located in Pleasanton, CA. Their contact information is:

The Drum Works
6654 Koll Center Parkway
Suite 420
Pleasanton, CA 94566
Phone: 1-866-325-3786
E-Mail: CustomerService@theDrumWorks.com

They're really more of "just" an online store 'cause they only have a relatively small 2- or 3-person office/store and don't maintain a large inventory of drums/percussion instruments. So, I suggest emailing and/or calling them up first prior to a physical visit.

FYI,
