Solid Vs. Staves

Postby Coco » Sun Apr 06, 2008 2:46 am

Just wondering what everyones opinions are on this. Does it matter sound wise whether a bongo is solid or made from staves ? If it does matter, then how much?

I know that drum makers themselves seem to be split on how important it is.....JCR seems to only do solid whilst Junior, Jay Bereck, Michel from Moperc and Matthew Smith all build/ built using staves.

We can tell what these drum makers think from looking at their products....what do the players think?

Coco, I have both types & I do not find any difference in sound. The only thing I can tell you is that the solid type is lighter than the staves type I have. The Colombians Cp & Tambores Barranquilla are also made solid.
