I love this type of rim and hardware. why has Volcano been using Remo percussions "crown" hardware on their new congas?

With Volcano Percussion you have your choice of hardware. "Mr. Bongo" Mr. Jack Costanzo ownes these top of the line Bongos they are “Custom Traditional” hardware is all handmade stainless steel buffed to a mirror finish. The wood is rare Hawaiian Full Curl Koa.

You will also see “Natural Fusion” hardware is also stainless steel, except for the crown, lugs and nuts, which are chrome plated mild steel, like most other companies.

It's nice to have choices to fit your budget and your preference.

I'm surprised that JC, being a seasoned veteran, chosed the confort curve look over the traditional. I for one, dislike and will not own a bongo' or a conga with confort curve crowns.

I don't care for the comfort crowns . I like old school. J. Conga has the right to pick what he likes. He is very happy with his Volcano Percussion Congas.

To answer your question. Yes- Jack now an Endorsed Volcano Percussion Artist and he has his own "Mr. Bongo" Jack Costanzo Signature Model Bongos made by Volcano Percussion.

Volcano Percussion's Jack Costanzo "Mr. Bongo" Signature Model Bongos

Volcano Percussion has recently introduced their Jack Costanzo Signature Model bongos. These bongos come in both 7"x 8.5" and 7"x 9". Mr. Costanzo is one of America's leading living legends in Latin Jazz as bongocero , bandleader and arranger for over 65 years. He desired bongos that have all the beauty and sound of the finest musical instruments of the world with the added strength of a "diesel truck". Mr. Costanzo stated, bongos also need to be shock resistant due to the quick changes of instruments we make on stage. In all the years I've been playing, these are the best looking, finest sounding and absolutely the strongest bongos I've ever owned. Volcano has made the crowns, lugs and lower rims out of 100% hand buffed stainless steel. They've even put reinforcement plates on the inside of the shells. They're also shock resistant due to the rubber gaskets on both sides of the center block. In addition, they've joined all the staves together with a modern form of doweling for extra strength. To top it off, they're the lightest professional bongos I've ever played. What a joy! My choice of wood was the rare Hawaiian Curly Koa, only seen on the finest guitars and of course Volcano congas. This wood is not only the "King of Woods", it's known in Hawaii as the "Wood of Kings". These drums are not inexpensive, but in relationship to other musical instruments, they are. It's well worth the additional cost to own an original drum by Volcano, that's the ultimate in quality. I will never want or need for another set of bongos again.

This is the first set of Jack Costanzo " Mr Bongo" Bongos made by Volcano Percussion. The name plate is on the way from Volcano Percussion. I will post another photo when the name plate is installed on the drum. They really sound fantastic! I have been enjoying them every day .

Cool. Thanks for posting them, certainly look fantastic. How do they vary in this new 'Jack Costanzo' model compared to original Kurly Koa ones made by Volcano you posted a while ago? Is there something changed apart from the artist name tag on them, like shell size/rim/lug size/etc?

The photos are the same bongos. They were made just after Mr. Jack Costanzo elected to endorse Volcano Percussion Company. Volcano did not have the name plates finished before the bongos were made. So the bongos are the same but made after the the deal was made with " Mr. Bongo" They will have a name plate. You can still purchase Volcano's Curley Koa Bongos. But they are not the Jack Costanzo Model unless you order them as such and they have the name plate. These are the top of the line bongos made by Volcano Percussion.

If you want to purchase the beautiful rare Hawaiian Koa wood bongos without the name plate you can. If you want the top of the line, rare and beautiful full curl Hawaiian Koa wood signature series Jack Costanzo "Mr. Bongo" model, you can order them as well. The choice is yours. This is one of the reasons I like Volcano Percussion because they give you choices. In years to come I would think the signature bongos will be more rare and sought after than the Koa bongos without the name plate. Just like the old 1950's Jack Costanzo model bongos are very rare and more expensive today. I am honored and proud to have his name on my bongos.
