Old Toca Bongos

Postby Sakuntu » Tue Mar 24, 2009 1:52 pm

I came across these bad boys on craigslist. The macho head was ripped, and the hembra head was that real cheap white papery rawhide with a coffee cup ring stain in the middle. There was also a large crack in the macho about a 1/4 of an inch wide. I glued the crack, oiled the shells, and put some new heads on them so that they sound fairly decent now. Here's my question...I've never seen Tocas like this before. They almost look like Tocas rip off of Matador bongos. The wood is very light weight so i don't believe they are a high end bongo. Anybody ever seen these type of Toca bongos before. Can anybody guess what year they may be from and if they are worth anything?

There's a for sale right now for $70 over here in SF.
I have never heard of Toca's being all that collectable, except
maybe that model of conga Anga played...

Those are Matadors from the 80's. Somebody stuck a Toca sticker on! My church had a darker pair. Decent sound with the right skin. I had LP's like that from '73
