Bongoceros, which is you preference spot to seat in the band ? Me, I like to seat beside the conga ( Tropical Jamn ). The feeling of the Tumbao make it easier for me to come in and out of the martillo. On the other Band ( SalsaChé ) I have to seat on the timbales side , they are set on the midle and if the monitors on stage are not projecting the Conga with good volume the only thing you may hear is the cascara of the timbal .

If I was ever in a band I would prefer next to the conguero. For now my spot is in front of my computer on youtube trying to teach myself from bongoceros that play professionally and from what I see from them next to the conguero is the prefer spot. Que viva la rumba en el festival Colombiano !!!!!

In all my bands over the last 20 years or so, I always have set up the bongocero in the middle between the timbalero and the tumbador. Apart from being in the perfoect spot for listening/seeing what is going on, also makes it easier for swapping around during the gig.

Personally I prefer between timbalero and conguero. If the stage/venue just does not allow the room , I prefer close enough to hear them(aside from stage monitors) as long as I can hear piano/bajo clearly. I can almost always hear timbal sans cascara.

Depends on the tumbador's presencia/afinque, plus alot to do with the sound mix also... Check out the mix here when I performed live on TV with a former band..

Yeah you have a good marcha. nice strong definition. If its mixed good, it can be heard well in the FOH mix, on stage is another matter IMO.
I personally do not like too much on stage monitors, local sound guys here are rockn' rollers, so its base heavy and drowns everyone else. When that happens, I look (listening) for piano or bass pattern to support what I can hear from timbs, congas( or lack thereof) for timing ; and the timbalero/ horns/vox for tune format qeues.

Then during break its time to chew the sound guys head off

I prefer to be in the middle so when I am on Bell to make sure bell is locked in with the Timbalero and I enjoy being next to the Congeuro when he has a good masacote it really helps. I also think that as long as you keep the Martillo going without breaking the rythem you riffs should flow coming in and out of maltillo. When you are playing with two percussionast that have realy strong fundamentals it is so easy to just relax and let go.
