...but that is what I got!
I was really happy with my Resolution and Valje bongos, the last thing I needed was another bongo.
But last month an ad appeared in craigslist, Skin on Skin bongos, cherry $350. I thought that was cool to see a set of SOS for sale, but I passed it up.
Then a week or so later the price was down to $325, then after that $300. I still wasn't interested because I didn't need another bongo, even if it would match my SOS congas very nicely.
But yesterday the price was down to $275, and what can I say? I'm only human, the temptation was too much, so I drove and hour down to San Jose and bought them. I had to. If I didn't, well.....
Anyways, the date inside the drum says 9/08, which makes these drums roughly 16 months old. The seller said he just didn't play them anymore. They were tuned down when I showed up, and the nuts hardly have any marks on them, which kind of tells me they were barely used.
There isn't a mark on these drums anywhere. Stock skins and everything. So the way I'm looking at it is I basically got a brand new SOS bongo in cherry for $275 and an hours drive, versus the $400 and 3 month wait, plus shipping. Not that I don't want to support Jay and Josh....
I've already played it for an hour or so. The macho is a screamer and the hembra thunder! It is a very comfortable drum, nice and light. Totally stoked!
Okay, here are the pictures.
