Aqui va lo que tengo al momento, mulato. This is what I currently have at the moment. Times are very difficult, if any interest you PM me.

1- 1950's Gon Bops, Vergara shells belonged to Manteca (Lazaro Pla), Matthew Smith retrofitted hardware.
2- Vergaras- La Coja (via Dandy Rodriguez) 1" taller than all bongos, Mongo's 1954 hecho en La Habana.
3- Ismael Bayamon Puerto Rico, 5 lugs 1970's.
4- Cubano, made in Guantanamo 1960, majagua wood.

I prefer old instruments. My preferences Vergaras, Ismael, Pan Con Queso, Requena, JCR, old Piernas, old Zebra wood LPs, old Valje and old Gon Bops. New mass produced bongos of today don't interest me, neither new ones from Colombia. If I would buy a new bongo, I'll have Matthew make me a mahogany one, or I'll go to Jay Bereck from SOS, also Charlie Vega in Isabela, PR. My opinion.

For me, depends on the model and who made it. I like some old, some new. Never will trade or sell my old El Piernas neither the Moperc. The others I may let go if the price is right. Down to 5 Bongos right now but waiting to see the mahogany desing by Timbas Del Valle which may be finish by he middle of October . Hate the new LP models with the caotic,terrible, worse, iron pot flat bearing edge that do nothing but hurt hands during Martillo.

Oye Dario que hicistes con el LP ? nunca enviates la fotos. Quizas cuando vuelva de viaje en Diciembre si t aparece otro en magnificas condiciones podemos negociar.

Right now I have -

3 LP Palisaides Park - one in each of my main pads, my original mahogany & 2 in walnut. All have goat on macho and cow on hembra. I play them all. Not for sale as long as I can still play.

2 by Meinl - a Woodcraft with stock buffalo skin that lives in the car & a 35 year old German
Oak with goat/cow that I'm keeping for a promising student.

An Ash Junior Tirado with mule skins. A great bongo but sadly, I look at this one more than I
play it. I'll probably keep it for a while longer then pass it on to someone who should have it

A great old El Piernas that I'm working on - slowly-slowly.

An old Cuban bongo that Matthew Smith has. ??? 6 months and counting

An LP triple bongo - don't ask why!

An old Slingerland Deep-Hand bongo with Ludwig plastic heads that used to belong to Ringo
Starr. I've been told I could get big bucks for it on Ebay in Japan. Right now it is a decoration
taking up space.

My newest - a bongo cajon by Spirit in the Wood. This one is lightweight, fits easily in a small
carry-on or back-pack, works great for stuffing socks & underwear into, and won't set off any alarms. No more excuses for not having a bongo when I might need/want one. And - even though its a bit hard on the hands, it sounds really great.

@ Psych one. I like the car bongo Idea too. Since I got my Gon Bops, Oak, California series, I keep my Matadors in the car. It works out real nice when you are out somewhere and you have some time to kill. Where's the nearest park? Also good when you go to a show and might be asked to sit in, if not, you aren't worried about your babies getting baked or frozen while sitting in the car.

Now if I get some better heads on them, I might change my mind about that.

I dont have to post a picture of my favorite bongo. It can be found a little further down in this forum, and is exactly as Omolenko described it. 71 palisades mahogany in near mint condition, goat on macho, cow on hembra. Now what do you think you get when you put top quality skins on a top quality drum? I fetched the thing at the post office this afternoon, and have spent some hours tuning and testing it. I found that my martillo needed a bit of tuning too. Now I am beginning to understand why people who prefer old bongos have several of them. When one drum sounds so good, how do the others sound? Maybe not better but different. Well, this bongo will keep me occupied for a long time, but i suspect I will be back for more. And I think one or two palisades patato congas are at the top of my shopping list now.

Here is the 1971 Palisades Park mahogany that casaet (Cato) got from me. This set was hardly used , it belonged to a trap drummer that used felt mallets when he played them (hardly ever). I only sold them because I have the LP zebra wood. These original LP's are gems and are getting very hard to find. I know Leedy 2 has a few, you can't beat the sound and craftsmanship of these early 70's originals.

Yeah, I got a set of mahogany PP just a few months ago, put some LH cow on them , they really sound phenomenal!
