A happy day, I've tried goat a few times in the past on the macho and not had much success, I could never seem to get skins strong enough to take the required tension, but after reading Leedy's comments a few times in the past regarding them I was determined not to give up. A few weeks back I found a toca pre-mounted, bleached, thick (relatively speaking, still thinner than mule I've used), 10 inch, goat Djembe head for 9 bucks in the markdown bin, I soaked it, cut it and mounted it last week on the macho of my timbas and it's a beaut, I totally see where he was coming from as far as the feel and sound, I barely have to touch it, just playing real light with my fingers makes great, clear dry tones.
I've paired it with a medium thin bleached steer on the hembre that I got from Ralph at Valje a few years back and it's a perfect combo.

Nice one Leedy !

Goat & Cow - that has been my favorite combo for years. But, I keep a mounted Remo Newskyn in my case "Never leave home without it"

Just Want To Thank You, For Sharing Your Info With Us, On Using Goat Skin For The Macho of a Bongo.
It's a great way to go . It's easy to install, easy on the hands and hardware. Goat on The Macho Sounds Fantastic.
It's delicate, but worth it.

No going back for me now ! It's so easy to play, just fluttering light with my fingers makes great sounds, which has improved my looseness, much funkier ! And I can tell it is putting much less strain on the instrument. I'm playing bongo much more now, they had been sidelined to the congas for years.
