Good observation about the Matadors, Leedy, I hadn't noticed that. Pedrito can make the kitchen table sound good, it is more about ears and brains than hands and instruments. I agree with you about getting all the different sounds out of the bongo, not just full hand secos. Jhair usually does that when he is accompanying a song, but sometimes not in his solos.

IMHO A good set of skins would have made a big difference on that bongo solo.

Saludos and happy hollidays, this video was taken in Africa while I was deploy there during last month. The band compose of african brothers playing a Cuban Son, the singer is luis Vergara which was a member of Eddie Palmieris band during his grammy award on the production that included the song palo pa rumba, he also was a member of Willie Rosarios Band for the last couple years. That song lasted more than 20 minutes while the Conguero and me taking solos on conga & Bongó. I think that was about my 5th and six solo during the same song.

That Bongó was made by Lito an artisan from Arroyo P.R. Was made of Oak with odd measures on the hembra 8 13/16" cilindrical shape. Macho was 7". Thick & mediun cow skins. I gave it as a present to the Conguero in that group.

Beautiful solos and sounds caballo. In my opinion it was a much better feeling and sound than the solo in the first video.

That was a real nice gesture from you man. You made that bongo sound real good on the video, and the conga player was on the money too. Nice jam in Africa, The Motherland.

Pablo I was in Mali. Thanks for you worlds, we have a very enjoyable time playing every couple days with those musicians. I met a Cuban percussionist there who could made that Djembe and Conga sing. I am trying to get a video of that day playing beside him.

B0ng0, Solos are as easy as the swing the band is playing,keep your ear and tempo lock on the piano montuneo and you won't have any problem.

Also my 1st Sgt gave away a Bass and another member of my unit who is a very talented player also gave away his guitar. Yes Africa is the motherland all music have his roots there.
