Nice clip!
I have another novice question: Is that a Guaguanco rhythm he's playing to the Conga, or is he improvising?
Also, I think it's humorous, in cute kinda way, how at about 37 seconds into it, he reflexively goes with his right hand to play a third drum...would that suggest that he's primarily a conga player?
His Bongos were tuned pretty low as well...nice sound.

Posted: Fri Aug 19, 2011 2:59 pmThat is my great friend Rolando Palacio (better known as 'El Niño Mentira' in Havana) in the clip. Brothers got skill. He is currently touring again with Afro Cuban All Stars, he is on congas again, on timbal is another great friend Pacha. Rolando was down my way back in 2000, and while in Havana over last Nov-Jan we spent some time together. In fact Rolando picked us up from the airport along with ex NG pianist Peruchin, and I even sat in on congas with Pacha's band Pedrito Calvo y La Nueva Justicia. (Pedrito is the former lead singer of Los Van Van)
Rolando is originally from Manzanillo, and has a wealth of percussion history knowledge and skill. A very well respected percussionist in Havana, very humble and overall awesome guy.
Rolando hooked us up to Adalberto Alvarez y Su Son's conguero, who in turn hooked us up with NG la banda and everyone else in Havana, the rest is history!
I have no issue with the clip, the man is a brother of mine. Not sure about your thread, very strange.
