What's good bongoceros, I have been away from the forum for quite some time, the Mopercs have been keeping me busy..

The other day I decided I wanted another bongo for christmas, now iv'e had a per say "crush" on the LP DANDY RODRIGUEZbongo, and I've heard a lot more good things than bad, so I'm almost decided on getting it, however the other day I came across the pearl elite mahogany bongo, it looks very nice, old school design, except for the hardware, I'm not really feeling that. The dandy & elite are at the same price $279.00, so now I'm a lil curious to know which of the two is the better drum, any opinions & reviews are welcomed.

Cuco, in regards to stock skins, which bongo has the better skins? And which one projects better? I would probably buy a remo head for the macho, just to have the contrast between my mopercs..

Thanks for the input cuco

I have not played or heard the Pearls, but I have a LP Dandy and am very happy with it. I have mule on the macho and she sounds fantastic.

A quick google image search refreshed my memory: I remember seeing the Pearls while shopping around. I am not a fan of the comfort curve type rims, and the Pearls have them. It's all personal preference but something to consider.

PRDR: yea bro iv'e heard a lot of good things about the dandys especially when the skins are changed, not to mention they look great..

I like the overall look of the elite bongo, but the comfort rims don't convince me, however it would be nice to get them wit traditional rims like cuco said, I heard they're special order only...

Thanks for the input guys, I just might end up with the dandys..

Saludos, I use to have the Dandy and really is nothing out of this world, for me even with a thick skin the hembra ringed too much. I can not blame that on time to cure the skin because I used many times to gig and rehearse. The Pearl, once I bought the elite fiberglass type, very well built and excellent hardware but been a fyberglass type don't matter which skin natural or plastic was on the hembra I could not make it sound to my taste. Both of the Bongos mentioned were sold. One thing I could said about the Dandy is that it come with better skin than other Lps. The Pearl came with junk type paper thin skins.

Good evening rumberos. I purchased a set of Dandy's last year and discovered that this model is well built and a good workhorse type of bongo for the working bongocero. The stock buffalo heads they come with are of a much better quality than was given as standard issue on other models in the past. I had switched the heads to plastic (Remo fyberskyn 3's tucked) and they sound very good. Although I've heard some complaints that the playing surface may be too sharp of an angle and may bother some playing a martillo pattern this does not inhibit me in the least. For the money it's a good buy. I copped mine for $250 from the Steve Weiss website. I changed the tuning lugs as well and replaced them with a set of Valje lugs from Resolution Drums. The lugs are a bit short but align much straighter along the bongo's body which helps overall in the ease of tuning as well. They weigh @ 10.5lbs but as I stated are well built. Probably's LPs best to date. Just my 2ยข Peace brothers,

Jorge.

Well, everyone has a different opinion so I'll give mine too. I've never played the Pearl but I have a Dandy and think it is LP's best bongo by far. And the stock skins are not great but are OK and as others say, better than ones on the other LPs. I don't play mine but I keep it around for others and it is well liked by some good players.

But, I don't like the way it looks! I know that Mongo's/Dario's Vergara was the inspiration for the design but I think it came out looking tacky. I'm going to strip mine - I think it just might look a lot better. But it has a plastic/fiber coating that I'm not sure how to take off. Any ideas?

Just wanna thank everyone for their input on the drums, I'll most likely end up with the dandys for Xmas, I was in the process of getting a great deal on a 3A solid shell bongo, but the deal has fallen thru due to lack of communication, so for the time being dandys it is...
