Saludos,
The other day I was looking at my Moperc bongos and noticed that the macho has a great sound, but the skin seems to be a bit thick, I read somewhere that a macho skin should have the thickness of a credit card, well this skin is almost double that, they are the original skins that Moperc mounted, I like the old school sound, but I think they could be a bit louder, would maybe changing the skin to a thinner size improve the sound? Your imput is appreciated, sorry I can't post pictures my pc isn't working at the moment gotta use my cell phone.

If you like the sound why change? There are no rules on how thick or thin a bongo head should be, or what kind of skin. Changing the skin to a thinner one may or may not improve the sound, skins are funny that way.

Gracias cuco,
@ bNB: hmm interesting, thanks for the input. I like the sound and the skin looks & feel nice, but I think if I swapped with a slightly thinner skin I might get a more crisp sound, pops & etc.. I'm not going to get rid of the original skin, just gonna mount a new fairly thinner one to see the difference...

The thickness of the head is very important. You got to know your drum and what is the right thickness for the heads. Cuco is not pulling the information from thin air.

Well if you can afford the expense of a new skin and flesh hoop, go for it. Have you tried tightening the skin further to see if you can get a crisper sound? Or altering your technique? How long have you had the drum? Is the skin broken in?

I always looks for a one cent to a nickel thick for the Macho. Too thin wears out too quick. Like BNB said ,skins sound is tricky .
