Just came in the mail today, 115 shipped, need a little cleaning and work but I think they're going to sound great. Got a set of mahog's in green sparkle , now the walnuts, just missing the elusive Zebra!

Yeah, the zebra is an endangered species here, because it is so rare. There will definitely be an end to that source some day...
... but not to the endless joy of owning and playing one of those beauties

Great find and price. Yes the zebras are rare and exotic but lots of players say the LP PP walnut bongos are the best bongos that LP ever made. I've had 2 of them and they were both outstanding.

Yes, I refinished them with lacquer if I remember correctly.

WOW! Just got them up and running last night, even with the buffalo heads these babies sound fantastic! Great pop on the macho and the hembra has a beautiful tone. Drum does need some work, some minor separation around the base like many old LP's only visible when you look from the inside, and typical gouges from years of existence. Great sounding set of bongos, so far these have been my favorite, i haven't owned a lot of bongos but I do have a set of mahogany PP's and an old set of garfield siam oak that I've had since 85. These are my favorite sounding drums so far.

Love them vintage LP's. Most of the time you always have
to re-glue stave separations or cracks no big deal. Sometimes
you can run them LP stock heads on some bongos with no
sound problems.

Actually e-bay, he didn't mention palisades park in the auction so they looked like old matadors. Could've been timing too, these usually go for 150 plus. There was a set of mahogany on at the same time for 150 with original heads and a stand, pick up only though unfortunately. I really think thse old LP bongos were the best instruments Martin Cohen ever made, I think they're right up there with the top bingo artisans in terms of sound and quality.

Again, I might be entirely wrong, as I have no experience with walnut wood.

I can't be 100% sure but they don't look like my previous set of mahoganies, teh mahoganies I had had ore of a red-orangish color than these.

Something to consider is that there are like (2) kinds of walnut (black and claro)
and also the way the wood is sawn (flat or quarter) makes a difference on the way
the wood grain looks. I have another LP bongo set that I am not quite sure what the
wood really is. I am thinking cherrywood but then again it could be mahogany too.
