Saludos Rumberos,
I just wanted to seek experienced opinions on Plastic replacement heads for the hembra and macho drums on a Bongo. Remo manufactures 3 known replacement varieties as follows:
Nuskyn
Skyndeep
Fiberskyn
Of these 3 I own two varieties, Nuskyn and Fiberskyn. I will get a set of Skyndeep to place on my LP Dandy's model and from what I gather that the experts at Remo told me is that the Skydeep has a mellower pitch to them. Actually they rated the 3 in this order Nuskyn lower mellow pitch, Fiberskyn a higher toned pitch and the Skyndeep an in-between pitch of the aforementioned varieties. PS I'm not too enamored with the Nuskyn sound but the Fiberskyn has nice projection. I hope the Skyndeep has a pitch to my liking. The only thing that turns me off on the Skyndeep is the method of adhesion to the metal ring (The Crimplock Method). It seems that after a while it may fail staying glued together from the tension of tightening up the heads. Once again Thank you for you input.

I've got a set with fiberskin (crimped) on the macho and nuskin (tucked) on the hembra, works really well for balancing the sound.

I have a set of NuSkyns on my Matadors and they sound almost identical to my other Matadors with steer. The sound projection and not having to de-tune was the reason I bought them but, the sound is great as well. Just my oppinion.

Saludos jorge, bro after playing great quality heads from Moperc,SOS, valje, etc...ur not going to be happy with remo heads...before I played my mopercs I thought skyndeep was the best, however after playing goof quality natural heads & playing remo again, I just couldn't stand it... the best example I can find to compare ( and I'm not trying to offend anyone honestly) is like sex with & without a rubber, natural is just that much better..

As far as sound nothing beats a thin goat skin on a macho head. I agree with that opinion totally. It's just that I've heard the Remo Skyndeep heads on several videos and for that matter on some studio recordings and really like the pop they project. John Rodriguez Jr., Jimmy Delgado, and even Frank Oropesa from the Septeto Nacional uses Skyndeep heads. Frank "El Matador" Oropesa uses a combination of Remo's on his set. He has been seen using Skyndeep heads on the Macho and Fiberskyn on the Hembra. He plays with the LP John Rodriguez Jr. Legends model of bongo, the same I own, and the sound is phenomenal. I'll get the new heads this week and should be content with the sound quality. I still have the original natural hyde heads that came with the Dandy's and I must say the factory where they manufacture this model has stepped it up a bit in quality in the type of stock heads they provide nowadays. In total I have 4 replacement macho heads for the Dandy's, thin goat & kip from L&H, Fiberskyn, natural stock heads from LP and soon the arrival of the Skyndeeps, 5 total. This may seem a bit of overkill to most but I like the variations, although very subtle, in the sound of different materials used for heads.

Gotcha. Do the dandy's have the same size as the standard LP's or are they a bit bigger, I can't remember. With all those heads which one to you has the most traditional sound?

The goat, kip and Fyberskyn has the traditional sound on the Macho end the Fyberskyn on the Hembra is good. The factory stock heads are close to the old school sound, cannot really comment yet on the Skyndeeps they arrive tomorrow afternoon. I can say that the synthetic heads are easier on the hands to play. Smooth and not as rough as rawhide heads. The Dandy's macho is a standard 7.15" diameter head but the Hembra is larger at 9" in diameter.

The wood on this bongó is Guayacan, also known as "palo santo"... sounds & looks great, I'll be writing a review on them soon comparing them to my mopercs

Saludos & happy hollidays to all. I have use the remo heads in the pass, crimplock fyberskin,nuskyn and skindeep ,they are good for all type of weather specially when is too damp. Here is a picture of my Lp palisades dressed with a black skindeep & a pictures of my old El Piernas specially for salsacero1 so he can flavor it .

Caballo, My mouth is watering looking at your Palisades with the black Skyndeeps, nice unique touch. I will be purchasing a set of HRs El Piernas in January from Naty Rocha, la hija de Hector. I may go that route and obtain the black Skyndeeps if Remo still manufactures that type of material and perhaps smaller head size for the HRs. Are they the black suede variety? I know they list several finishes, my order for the calfskin finish Skyndeeps arrives today. You have an impressive inventory to say the least! Thank you for posting these pictures, I can never get enough of the different images shown on this forum of all the bad ass-kicking drums that the forum members own or have owned at one point or other in their lifetime.
