Hello everyone,
I'm new here! I've played the drum set for twenty years and my daughter has shown an interest in Bongo drums.
Her birthday is next month and she has asked for bongos for her birthday.
I don't really have any experience playing bongos except in high school and that was 14 years ago.
What bongos should I get for her?

Mom,
Welcome!
If you're looking for some good bongos for a beginner, look at Matador by LP. They make a nice wooden set that is relatively inexpensive. If you pay more than about $150, you're paying too much.
My $0.02,
Zach

Hi DrummerMom,
I second 120Decibel's recommendation. If you can find a local music store with a good price (less that $125)...that's great. If not, an example of a good vendor where I have ordered on-line is
http://www.drumworld.com (not a plug...just an example) Their price is about $103 and I don't think they'll charge more that $20 for shipping.
good luck

For Matador Bongos, check also e-bay. Sometimes they could be found for less than $100 brand new. One important thing: the heads of the matador are of the worst quality so for a better sounding bongo, recommend changing the heads.

I carry my
35 doller "remo kids bongos" in my backpack, i love these things, i have large hands and the Matador bongos i have taken me some time to become accustomed to .
If you can get past the "cutiezie" animal print on these Remo Drums , youl love the bright tone and the price is unbeatable.
Again , i concider disposability a significant factor for the aspiring hippie or beatnick, the fear of damaging your gear is often to crippling to overcome,
answer, "think disposability"@!
