New Meinl Bongo

Postby torpedo tom » Sat Nov 10, 2012 8:52 pm

I've wanted bongos for a few years and just never bought any. A few days ago, as I said in my "Bongo Sizes" thread, I found a set of new, discontinued Meinls on ebay that I bought at a VERY good price. Less than $75 shipped. They are FWB300NTMs. That is they are the 300 series, don't know what's different between these and the 200s and 400s. They are natural color with matte finish. I don't think I have ever seen matte finished Meinls. They are 6 3/4" macho and 8" Hembra with the Free-Ride center block and traditional crowns. I drive a truck and am gone for two weeks at a time down in Texas so I think these will be great company for me, and don't take up a lot of room. The only thing is I hope my Arthretic left thumb doesn't give me a lot of trouble in the Martillo, LOL. Wish me luck. TT

Jusst got home from Texas about an hour ago and my new Meinl bongo was waiting for me. They are everything I expected and more. Meinl really puts out some nice stuff.

I saw those on Ebay, they looked brand new. I think you "stole the show" at the price you got them for. Those were a great buy.

These were not display models as stated in the ad. They were in a sealed box from the factory. They are really nice especially since I got them so cheap.

I just received a set of those Meinl's too from Greenbriermusicstore.

I got mine for $100 and the sales manager was very open to negotiations. There are a 4 sets left out of the 18 they had.

The ONLY improvement i can see making on these beauties, which appear to be the equivalent of $300.00 sets, would be to sand away the glue lines inside the shell; but hey, even my 70's Gon Bops Quinto has the glue sticking up on the inside of the shell. My 70's Valje Tumba is way more finished inside but my gon bops Tumbao Pro bass bongo is smooth as glass inside -- a thing of beauty.

Cheers,
Terry
