LP's new bongo

Postby salcero1 » Thu Mar 14, 2013 12:36 am

LP has just introduced this evening a new line of bongos and congas made of Durian wood which comes from southeast Asia. Nice looking color and design sort of like the Valje design they sell. I would swap out the comfort curve tuning crown with traditional crowns to give it that streamlined look. I'm wondering how light or heavy Durian wood would be and if it would be comfortable to play in a traditional position, seated between the knees. I may visit a drum shop soon to inspect them first hand.

Durian wood is starting to be used in Thailand in many drum products now. I have not tried out these particular bongos yet but in general Durian is very light. It has not yet been seen how long the wood will last, though. Gon Bops let me demo this durian wood djembe drum out for my comparison videos:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JtmGtWQAL4 The Gon Bops starts at around 00:01:20.
