i've heard that after you play bongo bells for a while they start to loose their nasty overtones. does that mean that it would be a good idea to "knock in" the bell with a drumstick, a bit like when you knock in cricket bats with a cricket ball?
thanks,

If you look on the cowbells JCR thread on this forum, you will see that campanas get better with abuse, like leaving them out in the sun, wind and rain. I guess beating them will also improve them too.

I've actually re-tuned many bells with a ball peen hammer. Just work slowly and carefully so as not to compromise any of the welds. You can end up with a nice campana even if you started out with an utter piece of Bush.
