Just worked out a deal with a friend of mine, make a long story short, I acquired his AWESOME TIMBA Bongos which he has owned for aprox 6 yrs.
The size are 7" Macho and 9" hembra.
I will be replacing the hembra skin being that it's mounted way too high plus I think it should be a like thicker.
They are solid oak and the color is called "Foxy Black".
Man they are nice, great craftsmanship and hefty hardware.

What has been your experience with TIMBA bongos?

Posted is also a sticker which I had recently had made. The guy who made it could have done a better job after digitalizing and modifying the image as some features are somewhat distorted.
When I go back I will have him fix the image, so the next ones should be better.

Nice set King Konga, the shells scream "Gon Bops" all the way..........

Well, my Timbas are the same measures but in "salsa red". You can take a peek at the top picture behind me. Next one are my LP's in my practice room. I also have the same Gon Bops. The drums has the same shape because I believe the artisans working for Timba as well as the machinery, are the same. BUT, the Gon Bops looks like a toy next to the Timbas. I can only give you an advise: NEVER and I mean, NEVER leave your Timba bongó tuned. The shells loose their roundness and become oblong. It happened to me.

Here are my toys:

El Magnifico, That's a nice arsenal you got there hermano. I see that you have a synthetic head on the macho of your TIMBAS, which by the way are sweet looking. What model number is that?
Also, I see that you replaced the hembra, did you not like the TIMBA cueros? How do your TIMBAS sound?
Are these the TIMBAS that you say are out of round? Can you take a picture of the inside to show the actual condition?

My "Foxy black" Timba bongos were stolen. Broke my heart! I tried to call Sylvia Cunningham, no answer. Can you get me a lead on some place to replace them?.......I know they're not yours!(smile) Many thanks.

Saludos, you could always lower that skin by putting a wet towel on top and tune the Hembra a half turn every 2 hours until is about 3/8" from the bearing edge then let it dry. However if the skin is too thin then it is better to change it as you plan because it may not hold the pressure and brake.
