Doctorrumba if those are actual screws unwelded on the hardware, there I see a problem, screws wanting to bust with the tention.

They are not screws,they are rivets and the bottom Cuban hoops are welded at the bottom so when you tighten the lugs the rivets will not give.This guy knows how to built good looking and sturdy hardware.Hey, I don't get commision from him.I just recommend what's good. Saludos, Dario

tell him that Ralph from NC gave you his info, and he'll charge you $475...
Seriously he may have gone up in price a little or he may have charged the good doctor less...i had a drum made last year and it cost $475 or $450 i can't remember i think $450.00...there are price differences between chrome hardware and the black hardware...caribbean mahogany is hard to come by he made mine out of African mahogany, and it is worth it...money well spent, and the art lives on...

Those are beautiful congas, very old school. They are an investment, if you have the money you pick up a set of those and I am sure you would not regret it. I can't afford them but if I could, I would rather not give my money to a big corporation (Kaman) but instead to a craftsman like this Matthew guy or Cali. I am going to save my money and get the good stuff someday!

Matthew charged you $475 probably for a conga.My bongo was $375.Also he offers drums in different woods.A bongo in curly maple wood is going to cost more than one in mohagony or oak.Also chromed hardware is more than black oxide and 5 bands on a conga is more than four bands,6 lugs is more than 5 lugs.
In my opinion,I rather spend $475 on a conga from Matthew than $389 on an LP,Pearl or Toca.The difference in beauty,sound and craftsmanship is from day to night.With proper drum care (lubrication,detuning,etc) his drums will outlive any human. Rompe,que rompe tambo'. Dario
