Will the Evens tri-centre heads fit Matadors?

The web site mentions that they fit Gen 2 and Valje.

The measurements for those (as far as I can tell) are the same as Matadors.

I searched forum and didn't find this particular question addressed. I also emailed Evens and they were promt and very helpful but weren't sure either.

Has anyone put evens heads on matadors?

Thanks

Darrell

ps. haven't ruled out remos - just exploring my options

Hola Burke, Never have use evans but I have use Remo Fyberskin (Crimp type ) many times without any problem.
Matadors are standard size 7 1/2 " & 8 5/8 ". You did not find evans because is not too popular around here.

Evans should fit Matador bongos. Matadors are actually the same size as LP's pro version, Generation II. (Generation III has a bigger hembra or big drum with 9 inches). Is the body of the drum that differs. (For your info. Matadors are modeled after LPs original bongos back in the 60s and 70s. If you could find an original LP bongo it looks like a current Matador).

My comment: Evans is not doing a good job in telling you whether Evans fit or not. Matador is one of the percussion lines that sells the most. They should know.

Is all over this forum. Be aware that synthetic heads do not fit well in all bongos regardless if the bongo size is "covered" by the standard synthethic head.

Here in Puerto Rico, the problem is such that stores do not take returns of synthetic heads. They want you to bring the rim or the drum to see if it fits. They have signs about that all over the "heads section." (Like I mentioned sometimes synthetic heads will not fit perfect but that particular head is the one that "should fit).'

Evans are good heads but most people are using Remo because they project better. Remo Nuskyns, with the "traditional like natural heads" rings are the most similar to Evans but have the same problem as Evans, that the overtones are cut a little bit. Fyberskins project much better. (LP recommends and in fact uses Evans).

We hope this helps! Saludos!

yes, they will fit. i have a friend who had evans tri-center heads on all three of his matador congas (quinto, conga, tumba)
i should also add, that he replaced them with fiberskyns, and the fiberskyns sound a lot better than the Evans.

good luck

My bad, Forgot to mention that my friend also did the same on his matador bongos. started with evans tricenter heads and replaced them with firberskyns and got better results.

Good luck

Thanks Oz,

The deed is done!

I opted for the evans in the ned because of price (they sell the set which is a pretty good deal).

For now I'm quite happy since its a VAST improvement over the previous cheap set I had - but it is true the head on the hembra is a bit ringy - I've read the same about fyberskins. So I might look at a natural skin down the road for the hembra.

the first bongos i had was the matador wood type. they sound so nice, mellow and crisp with the remo nuskyn heads. since i wanted to upgrade to the LP generation 3. three years ago i gave them to a young and promising young 10 years old aspiring percussionist. when i see him , i always ask him if he is still have them . he does and still enjoying them. i always encourage him to keep on learning. hes is learning by himself. he can't afford a teacher. also moved about a year ago. i have not seen him since. the matador bongos is great percussion instrument. with synthetic or real skins. my best, franc
