***Safety Concerns***

Allergic or not you never want inhale sawdust/sanding dust is not good
for you that stuff will tear you up. Having an allergic reaction is one thing
clogging-up your lungs and respiratory system is a totally different ballgame.
Always wear a sawdust/sanding dust mask.

The plot thickens! My expert friend doesn't know what wood it is but is certain it is neither pau ferro nor cedar.

He knew right away it was not pau ferro because it is very light and soft. Pau ferro is a much denser, heavier wood. He showed me a pau ferro sample. He refers to that wood as Brazilian rosewood but it has other names.

He took a little longer deciding it was not cedar. He actually did the scrape and smell test. No breathing mask for this guy - he lives on sawdust.

He refered me to someone else who knows more than he does - maybe tomorrow.

Sorry Psych but Pau Ferro is not known as Brazilian Rosewood, now it is a
substitute for Brazilian Rosewood. Pau Ferro is known as Bolivian Rosewood,
Morado and Santos Rosewood. I refinished both of my CP bongos I have no
doubt is Pau Ferro, all the characteristics listed on the hardwood/tonewood
databases I have research are there. . I am not pulling this out of thin air,
see links. This wood is not soft at all and the bongos project real well with
a warm tone specially the hembra. It took me a minute doing research to
finally arrived at the conclusion that the wood of my (2) older CP's is pau ferro.
No other tone wood looks like that. My last entry on this thread got to move on,
keep on drumming and cherishing vintage drums. Good Luck, Gentlemen!
