FITTING A TUCKED SKYNDEEP ON EL PIERNAS MACHO....

Hi group,
I currently have a skyndeep on macho of my el Piernas,but crimplock style,that is ready to be replaced,but I want to put the tucked one,which will last longer,it does not look like it will fit,but some of you have managed to do it...I think Caballoballo has them on most of his bongos,and on an El Piernas as well.How do you do it w/out damaging the bongo?

Johnny is very easy. You just need to pry out the crowns ears. Use a vise grip or channel lock to do it. Put a piece of cardboard in between so it doesn't damage the chrome, go little by little until it fits . The ears will return to their position after tension is applied during tuning. Let me know if you need any more guidance

Thanks Josean,I knew you would have the answer,since I saw 1 of those skins on most of your bongos....I figured the only way was to play with the ears,but I did not know how to do it safely! Thanks for the tip,I'll try to do it this week end.Since it was a million dollars question,I'll wire transfer you the money this time,I have a very reliable Greek bank I know!!!

I had the same problem when I changed some skins on a bongo set I had several years ago, I'm just brutal like this.....I used a hammer and gently, awwww who am I kidding, I beat the pi$$ out of those ears. I was careful tho, seriously!

Could not wait till the week end ...the skin demanded to be mounted......Anyway, thanks again Caballoballo, the skin was easily mounted and without ear infection (sorry,I could not resist that one!) . My el Piernas is happy again!!!
