Elio Coto is my friend. He has done work on some of my bongos. He painted this Hr El Piernas and refinish this other unbranded.

This one was refinish by Elio, made of cedar 7.25 X 8.75. I have never used it or tuned. I am thinking about selling it along with the El Piernas if the price offered by the buyer is good and reasonable.

Those are impressive! How do you like the Remo Heads. I haven’t really given them much thought.

I can’t wait till I receive my Elio Bongo. Right now the only hand made bongo I have is my Manito Percussion Bongo. I love the way it sounds.

Saludos, remo skins are ok, sound very close to natural skins and are very reliable. However I detune after every use as I don't think is necessary to keep tension on the shells plus the head is going to stretch out sooner than later.

I got to give those a try. I had a set on a Palisades NJ Bongo I had last year, but I never played them and decided to sell them. REMO makes atleast three different ones correct? I don’t know where to start! Lol. I think I like the tucked ones, that kinda look like real skins. But their a bit pricy.

Skindeep from remo has been my choice for years, also is very gentle on the hands. . M9-0715-S4-SD009 I believe is the black type for the macho . However, I have use fyberskin in which the graphics peel off with time and Nuskin is kind of too hard on the hands. That has been my experience with Remo.

I'm curious if someone could post some bongo shell dimensions - however more specifically the thickness of the shell wood when measured from the bottom. Also, the height of each drum.

Bongoceros! Elio Cotto just finished the bongo I ordered from him a month before the Hurricane hit PR. It took him a while to get back in his feet so he was playing catch up. Here’s a couple of pics. Solid shells in Caoba (Mohagany). Stainless Steel hardware. Rawhide skins. Can’t wait to get these in the mail.
