Resoaking and rubbing wax on the bearing edge worked out perfectly! The drum is now very well balanced, both tonally and mechanically, and has a great sound. I am looking forward to breaking in that skin.

Thanks to all for the help!

Last Friday I finally had the chance to take out the bongó and have some fun with two old friends that I hadn't seen in a long while. Here we are jamming for the first time to the rumba* "Volando voy", written by Kiko Veneno for Camarón de la Isla:

I am very happy with the sound of the new hembra skin!

(*) Spanish/Flamenco/Catalan/Gipsy/... rumba, of course not Cuban rumba.

Nice playing, man! Smooth, fluid, nice sound - exactly right for that setting.

Thank you Juaort! For a relatively cheap bongó (50 € second-hand on ebay-Kleinanzeigen + 70 € new skins), I am very satisfied with its sound.

I would like to try some day some of the "first-class" bongós like the ones some of you guys have (old LPs, JCR, HR or the like). The sound of those must be at another level in terms of projection, warmth, etc. But for the moment, the two bongós that I have (this Meinl Marathon and an old CP Matador with quite decent skins) are more than enough for my needs.

Cheers!
