Check out this video of Jimmy Delgado. Tell me what type of head do you think is on the macho ? Is it a Remo Nuskin ?
And the hembra ?

Macho looks like remo fibersyn. Hembra is hard to tell.

They both look synthetic heads and appear to be Remo Fyberskins.

The macho has the "new big Remo logo" and the hembra, although is hard to see the logo, appears to be a Fyberskin too. The color is the beige associated with Fyberskins with the brown "ring" close to the ring. The hembra probably has the "old small Remo logo from years back". Also, the sound...it sounds like a Fyberskin. (Remember that the hembra head is the one that is not changed that often so it could be an old head).

You are probably right Raymond. the beige color does tend to point to Fibersyn, the Nuskyns are whiter.
That hembra sure sounds dry though.

Anyone guess what drums he has ? I know that's tough there hard to see. I just thought they sounded good if they are synthetic.

I eyeballed again my own Gon Bops CA from the top. Tonio, you're right, 'mano. Based on the shape and style of the rims, they could very well be the new Gon Bops. It's hard to distinguish, though, if they're the top-of-the-line, handmade California series or the Tumbao Pro series. Both models have identical hardware.

If they're the California series, why he would change the skin or skins (particularly on the "macho") to Remo synthetic beats me. Gon Bops CA already have excellent stock skins to begin with. And if they needed to be changed, such as if and when the skins split, he could have stuck with natural skins. But this is just my personal preference.

On the other hand, if they're the cheaper Tumbao Pro series, then there's probably some sense in change the stock buffalo skins to Remo. But again, personally, I'd go for better but-still-natural skins, such as the JCR mule which I have (just on the "macho") and I'm very happy with.

I don't personally know Jimmy, but based on his past credits, he's probably too busy to fuss with reskinning. He probably even has a tech guy. He can make anythng sound good anyway

Without mentioning any names there is another legendary bongocero that likes to play the Valjes for their big sound. I have seen countless of the great ones play stock LP stuff on their gigs and they always sound good. This last summer I saw Tomasito Cruz with Arturo Sandoval and he was playing LP Classics with stock LP heads and there was nothing wrong I mean nothing with the sound that he extracted from them drums. No doubt quality professional gear is very important specially the heads but the most important thing is who is sitting behind them drums. I said it before people like Giovanni Hidalgo, Orestes Vilato or Luisito Quintero to name only a few can make cooking pots and silverware sound really good.

I have set of LP Valjes. I took off the Remo fibersyns, they are so ringy- yuck. The original had a warped skin hoop, and made the shell actually warp. Once I got the Remo on , it went back to being round. Now I have a good cowhide skin. I use it for lighter duties as an alternative to Mopercs.

Looking closer to the video, its really hard to see the crown brackets, but 1 second does show that its angled.

Issac....that's what I was thinking. Were you selling some JCR's awhile back ?

Thanks everyone for you comments and wisdom. I 'm deciding between these 3 . I know from reading the posts that JCR and others are well respected but costly.
