Nasty ringing - help sought!

After cleaning my AFRO vintage brass timbales, the hembra produces an awfully metallic ringing sound when I play cascara.
Now I wonder: did I make a mistake cleaning the shells at all? But the stains looked really ugly, and
now the good old (25 years +) set looks fine, considering its age:

It cannot be a matter of tuning either, as the open tone is as good and dry as ever.
Perhaps one of the lugs has come loose in the cleaning process and rattles now?

Any input is appreciated.

How did you clean? Have you removed laquer that comes on timbales, check inner plate are they in place proper ? if all of these question lead to a yes must put all back if its laquer and do not want to spray get cloth tape and put on inside of plates that will take ring away or rubber very care full how you put it small amount at time till you get sound you want

There is no lacquer, it is sheer brass, and there are no inner plates either as the lug system is different.
I used Nev´r Dull for cleaning which is rather mild.
The only thing I can possibly think of that causes this ringing is the fact that I took off the skin when cleaning the shell and while doing this, some of the "clamps" at the bottom part of the shell came off. Perhaps they are not totally in place and I have to dismount the whole skin and lugs and remount them again.

Which kind of lacquer would you apply on brass timbales?Just any spray lacquer (brilliant finish?)
You see, I am not an expert there which is why I appreciate your hints.

The only thing I wonder about is why the macho which underwent the same cleaning process
does not have this ringing?

the cheapest way get a bike tube and cut to size of lugs and put in back of lug and put drums back together, ring will go away and you save alot of money.

It is amazing what a little piece of bike tube can do.

Now the drum sounds perfect, no nasty metallic ringing sound any longer.
