To this day you ask any drummer or timbalero to play Mozambique, and he or she will play the beat that Manny came up with. It's too bad he didn't patent it!”.

This may be true of american musicans but ask anyone anywhere else in the world they will play pello el afrokans original mozambique parts ! The original mozambique is an amazing groove . Played in a huge band a few years ago doing a tribute to pello .A very powerful groove when played by a lagre ensemble . Is it true that manny mozambique came about because they didnt have access to the proper cuban ryhthms so he came up with what he thought he heard ?
