Did Ted Reed have a word for the technique of pressing the stick down on the the head to muffle and change the tone?
I haven't seen his book, but I would imagine he does not address the minor detail of playing in clave.
On a side note, to respond to your claim, how can you say the conga part is not needed in a mozambique? Without the conga part the rhythm would not sound like a mozambique. In fact there are more conga parts than the 2 drum rhythm Jesus is playing. I am talking about the Pello el Afrokan style mozambique that Jesus and Bombon are playing, not the New York style mozambique that Manny Oquendo and others developed.
