this is what i like the most of my favourite timbalero willie bobo,that he didn't hit the timbales hard,he just pull the natural sounds out of the drums,maybe it is that he was also a jazz drummer and mix those techniques with timbales playing,that soft type of playing drums.

I agree with Cuco, stick control and calfskin are excellent, I also play seated and I put a carpet undeneith my timbales, with the drums closer to the floor alot of the sound is absorbed by the carpet yet you still get full sound
