"A Different Shade of Black"

Postby salcero1 » Thu Jun 16, 2011 2:48 am

A makeover for my sets of timbals. Candy apple red translucent powder coat finish. UV and chip resistant finish. Company out of Long Island called Action Powder Coating did the job on the rims. They kept the integrity of the chrome finish and didn't have to sand blast it off to apply the powder coating. Drumheads are Remo Ebony Ambassadors. If interested Google them and send them a photo of what you want done to your hardware. I wasn't going to post anymore but I just wanted the community of the forum to enjoy some class added to some old warriors. Enjoy the eye candy.

Peace rumberos.

Jorge

Look awesome man. Dont know if I personally would've done it to the 'green label' timbs, seeing as they are a bit of a rarity, but top looking job nonetheless. 8)

To all comments above ...That is if the man wants to get rid of the timbales, but if he plans to keep them til death does him apart... he can do what ever he wants.
they look cool, Martin may just rip you off the idea as he has done in the past with others.
Peace

I don't plan to sell any of my sets. They are mine and will be included in my will to hand down to a few family members. Never did like the way LP painted the shells as in those TP pictures that were posted. Some of them look as if a NYC Graffiti artist got a hold of them and did a mural on them such as the ones you see painted on the sides of buildings in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The solid painted shells such as the red, green and blue in the other images are mainly for large stage presence. To me they looked fake and cheap but as far as acoustics Puente made them sing beautifully. I would never paint any of the shells of any of the sets I own. I dug the look of the translucent Candy apple red powder coat finish that I ordered for just the tuning crowns. If I had intentions of selling the Puente set (Green Badge) I wouldn't have painted the tuning crowns. I've got nothing but compliments on the sets and I'm very content at the outcome of the makeover. Y Sigo Pa'lante. Peace.

Jorge.

As you should! Like I said, they do look awesome. 8) I love candy apple red, in fact, my race car is in the process of being resprayed in Candy Apple 'brandy wine' Red.

Update:
An improvement on the Green badge Puente set. My stand was a bit run down so I opted to buy a new stand. Personally I'm not too enthralled with the tilt system but the overall sturdiness of the stand eliminated the wobble between the shells I had with the old stand. The wood separator block was a bit frazzled as well in essence it was a good switch for me. I picked up a black stealth jam block and it accents the overall aesthetics of the set beautifully. The 16" Zildjen ride/crash cymbal is OK for now but I would like to obtain the 18" "El Sabor" Sabian ride/crash cymbal. I heard it's acoustics when I visited the Guitar Center in Brooklyn's Flatbush mall and fell in love with it. Maybe a Christmas gift to myself in December.

Peace,

Jorge.
