Hello...

Did Afro Percussion make Timbalitos?

If so, how are they? Okay? Decent? Good? Very good?

Any info you can share about them will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Yes Afro did make timbalitos. I own a pair from the Pearl Afro days in 10" and 12" and are brass. They have a great shell design, but the shells are very thin. If you try to play cascara on them it sounds terrible. I have them cranked down pretty hard and I feel like I'm going to warp them out of shape and make the L brackets fold inwards. The seperator block is a piece of plastic and does not work well though. Overall I would say that the stand and mounting system isn't great, but it's nice that there are no extra holes drilled into the shells for mounting. Currently I have clear heads on them, but am going to make the switch to real skin. I do admit that they sound pretty sweet when played with a thicker stick and were a great buy. Later down the line I'l assemble a new lighter stand. They are very rare these days.

Hope this helps,

I cannot say much on the timbalitos,
but the vintage Afro timbales I own have pretty thick shells
and a really nice and dry cascara sound (brass).
