Cowbell Help

Postby mydogsowner » Wed Dec 07, 2011 10:24 pm

I got my Gon Bops Tumbao Timbales with DW stand today. I'm happy with the purchse from Music Go Round. It was packed well and I got a good deal on the set I think.

Anyhow, I have a question.

I want to be able to attach a cowbell and maybe a jam block to the stand. I see no point of attachment. My only thought is that maybe there was an elbow piece that sat on the longer post for the drum attachment to the stand? Can anyone offer me some guidance on how this would work with my stand?

It is an older set as the Gon Bops Badges are not the current ones. There is no model number on the DW stand. Here's some pics:

You'll need to either call the seller, or go online to LPmusic and order the following part for the cowbell mounting bracket! The link below is the only one I could find, it's not a local one, but it at least had the picture of what it looks like.......

Suerte!

You are missing hardware. Looks like the tumbao series does not come with the rack/hardware
to mount bells. Interesting.

I knew it was missing the hardware when I purchased it from Music Go Round, but the price was too good to pass up. I wish I had an idea of how old the set is with these badges. This is not a newer set for sure.

I wonder if the LP piece would work. In the illustration from the link it looks like it would sit on the same post as the drum? Is that true?

Is hard to tell if the LP bell mounting bracket fits the Gon Bops. You can always buy the claw and mount your bell on it.

Also you may want to contact Gon Bops and see if you can order the bracket for the tumbao timbal. Does not look like Gon Bops has a catalog that's one place where LP outshines the competition. LP has a pretty vast and detail catalog and you can order about anything from it. I use the LP percussion claw on my timbal and it works great.

Mydogowner, Take a look at my set with my old LP stand. It has a similar post where you attach the shells. I purchased an LP mounting bracket to mount my bells and jam block because the original was not tightening as well and was moving left to right while playing. If you zoom in on the photo by putting your cursor on the photo and right click it a second time to get even closer, you can see there are 2 holes on the bracket. This is for the post and a nub that the newer LP stands have to secure the bracket much better and prevent the shifting as I have explained. This bracket doesn't shift at all on my set and was a decent replacement part and may be worth your while if you cannot get the original mounting bracket of your set. I think my purchase ran about $10. This may be an option you may want to utilize. Peace.
PS- Upon a closer look of your mounting post the LP may work. What you will have to do is ask the dealer if the spacing is equal where your nub and post are in relation to the LP bracket's specifications. Here is the website where I got my hardware. Give them a shout and talk to their percussion specialists to see if the LP bracket would work with your set.Buena Suerte.

I am hopeful that either LP985 or LP984 may work. I will make a few phone calls next week after my work weekend. Thanks for the replies and the pics.

If all else feels the claw would work in a pinch; no pun intended. :}

Many thanks again,
Lisa

The LP claw or the Meinl Universal Percussion Mounting Clamp will work also.
These also also allow you to mount bells/blocks exactly where you want them.

Does anyone know which works better on Timbales? The LP Claw, LP Lugger, or the Meinl Universal?

I like the idea of these since I can transfer them to other instruments if I wanted.

I would go with the Meinl, the LP claw looks as though it clamps on the rim of the drums, where the Meinl looks as if it will fit directly onto the bell hardware that your timbales have.
