Here's two little sound samples of a Guiro to Oya and Bata for Osain. We just had a reunion of Lara and Scott - two decades removed from our regulars - a few weeks ago. It sure was nice to have these guys show up and want to jam with us. Also, sitting in with us was Jeff who comes up at least once a year to share the vibe. I just love what Lara brings to the Akpon!!!! What a voice!

Just a tiny segment of what I thought was a wonderful performance. You know,, when it turns out really good, that's when you don't get a recording. This was taken by a woman with good intentions, but no camera skill, so sorry about the quality.

Here's our first recording of Our Oru Seco: teacher Mike, Ritz on Itotele, and I'm on Okonkolo.

Not perfect,, we went back and had to work on Chango and Oya afterwards,, but we're almost able to play the whole thing now!

We call it "Slow Jam".. I started it with the segundo part to Columbia, where the tones are on the bombo and "uh, four" spots.. But, my compatriot playing the low drum thinks of my bombo as the onbeat. Then, a bell comes in where he thinks my four is the ponche... And this how it all comes out.

Thursday, we did our favorite non-paying gig at our school. I had 6 of our group come and play comparsa, rumbas, bembes, iyesa, and some bata-rumbas for the "World Expo" night. We had loads of fun, and the everybody loved us!

Been a long time Congaplace! During the start of Covid I found a way to woodshed on projects that would start as a goal, woodshed really hard, and end with a presentation. So, here's a few year's worth of projects:

Asoyin Arara over 4 drum bembe

Ochun over Iyesa

Obatala - bembe

Chango - stick Caja/bell

3 Yewa songs over bembe and stick Caja

Oya Rezos over guaguanco

Osain over guaguanco

Columbia

Dada, Orisha Oko, Iroko over bembe Caja and Bombo conversations

If you wonder why I went to Vimeo, did you notice any ads?

Nice work. I haven't watched all of them - (it's soon supper time here and I'll have to leave :) - but I like what I've seen so far.

Out of curiosity, which recording and filming material and computer programs did you use?
