Does anyone know how makes the driest sounding shekeres? I noticed that all of them are made with glass/fiberglass beads.

I would talk to my man Stan over at Pacific Coast Percussion. He will customize your request...

It's possible to make shekeres with wood beads. I've made some with wood beads and have had a good result.

Beautiful shekeres from Pacific Coast Percussion, they are pricy but then I have friends with speed boats, bikes and snow machines. Percussion even the top end is still a much less expensive interest than those items. Plus we do not have to spend much on gas and maintanence.

I bought creations both from Stan and from Timbali.
Both equally good. Timbali can make you a new one or repair/refurbish your favourite old one in double quick time if you are in a hurry.
Check out his bags

I make shekeres, I know that glass beads ( hard to come by ) produce the loudest and drier sound. If interested let me know .
Peace

Here is a video I made of 5 different types of Shekere's being played. There are two from Pacific Coast Percussion, one with a loose net (blue) and one with a tight net (red and white). That also makes a big difference in sound. I also have one with small glass beads and one with cowry shells/glass mixed. I also put in the Gon Bops rawhide /fiberglass shekere. I hope this helps:

The Gong Bops one should be a good addition to a guiro with it sound so apart from the others.
At $239 it's more than their entry level drums, wow!
