Two Tone Top Cajon

Postby KevBo » Thu Oct 22, 2015 3:18 am

Here is a special drum that I was commissioned to build a few months back. Not sure what to call it. I guess technically it's a cajon, but it's played on top and a divider in the middle gives it two tones... Closer to bongos. I built this from solid walnut (bookmatched) with a baltic birch ply top.

Check out this blog post about how I built it with lots more photos...

Similar to a laptop conga. LP makes them and a guy in Argentina makes his own version.

I made one too.

Difference being the open body, size and quality of materials.

I kind of tried something like yours but worked with a shape sort of like rectangular doumbek ... wondered what effect the shape would have.

None :) ... ended up as fire wood. But I'm a hacker not a craftsmen like you so likely it may work in the hands of someone with skills.
