The recordings are not very good , as we made them using a Minidisc . I play the bongo here .

Good to hear some of your grooves.

Just one thing, in "La Rumba Orientala" was it the arranger's or conga players intention to have the congas played out of/crusado with the clave in the Yambu sections?

Sounds a bit rough in some sections, reminds me of some of the recordings from the late 50's / early 60's, had I of stumbled across it, I wouldve assumed it was from that circa.

Well done on getting some material recorded, in time you learn from your recordings and improve both quality of sound, arrangements and style. You get to hear what works and what doesnt.

I'm happy to hear that it sounds like an oldschool recording (:
All the songs were writen by our piano player , Lior .
The arrangements were made by all the band together .
We didn't mean to play the conga groove in La rumba orientala out of clave ... it just happened .
I'm quite sure that our flute player (Dana) didn't ever think she'd find her photo here (: , I'll show her .
And about the guiro , I'm the "Guiro dude" , and I realized that for some reason , it sounds better when it's upside down ... don't ask me why .

Well if you like the sound better, then more power to you!
If you and your band are happy with the sound, thats all that matters!

Maybe its technique though, correct positioning is with the opening upwards..

And Dana.... very cute.

I was going to ask this same question... It sounds pretty good, but that particular song bugs me for that reason. I suppose there is nothing wrong with it if you have an open mind, but my mind has been closed by far too much folklore study.
