Hey, I think we are all aware of the healing and spiritual power of drumming but here is something cool I wanted to share with everyone that supports what we know. A man here from Puerto Rico is a really good conga player and he suffers from Tourettes and he has it kind of bad. Tourettes is where you have the involuntary physical or vocal tics. The only time that he can get a break from his Tourettes is when he is playing his congas. The rest of the time he suffers from vocal tics and obviously it is very difficult for him. How amazing that playing his congas gives him a break from his Tourettes. From what I just read I guess the rhythmic motion and activity calms and soothes the body and releases tension that helps ease the tics. A great example of one of the many benefits that drumming has and I am very happy that this man can have some peace while playing his congas.

I Have to agree with Jongo. I have worked with people who have disabilities for about 12yrs; ranging from physical disabilities, mental health isues, autim spectrum disorder and also have a son with Down syndrome.

I can't tell you the time I have seen people relaxing and calming the nervous sytem through music.

My son has a tone on the congas to die for. Part of his early intervention when he was a baby was to play the bongos. He can get better tones than most of us. He has been playing sice he was 1yr old. he doesn't know technique or rhythms, simply plays from the heart. he can sing the clave while playing.

Great news about your Puerto rican friend. Reliefe and help can be found in the simplest things. If only western medicine would realize it.
