Greetings to all. It has been a few months since I have popsted on this forum. I have just bought the Luis Conte series Meinl congas. I purchased the conga and tumba. I paid about $450.00 for them. Im still trying to get my wife to buy me the quinto also. haha.
I wanted to know from you fellow congueros on what you think of these congas. Are they worth the money spent? Should I waste more on the quinto?
To be honest I also have a set of LP performer series congas but the Meinl congas sound alot clearer and crisper. I have only been playing for about a year but I love it.
Let me know your comments on this . Keep drumming
Dantino

ho dantino
those luis conte congas are good and professional drums. gratulations. i hope you will enjoy it very much.
to the quinto: most of the songs can be played on two drums with best results. its not so long ago, when you did not see many 3sets on stage. i do not encourage my students to play 3sets before they get along with one and two tubes. on the other hand, when you are once used to play 3set, you will probably miss the quinto if theres none.

greetings

Hello Dantino!

I tried them in a shop and must say that they were cheap for what they sounded like, but not my type; black hardware on congas (don't know why) ??? gives me the creeps, except on my Djembe. :;):

I know that Windhorse i more than happy with them!

Hey Dantino, I played a set of those the other day at Sam Ash and while they would not be my first choice I thought that for the price they sounded good.
Don't be in a rush to get the quinto. Focus on conga and tumba and get that down add the quinto down the road.

What's so bad about black hardware? is it just the looks or something more serious? I'm asking because I was thinkging about those luis contes myself ...

About black coated hardware... It associates me to CP bongos and also on my djembe... I think that black hardware is kind of a weaker and in my both cases the handles of rim for lugs did bend a bit, so when I changed the heads couldn't give them in the rim (drum) without scratches on aside (not playing surface of course). To me it's the strength of material; weaker.

my two cents,

Pimpi

ps in a case of Luis Conte Congas, can't say that...

Black harware isn't inherantly weaker, it's just cheaper to manufacture because of the cost of the chroming process. CPs and other drums with black hardware actually have thinner rims etc. The luis conte drums have heavy duty hardware on them.

Black hardware is just another look. For the cheaper drums, they save money
avoiding the chrome costs, which are always going up. Beware that black OR chrome,
that sometimes very soft metal, nickel, and not steel is underneath.

Skin on Skin used to offer black hardware and it looked great and was strong.
