The gigging scene in the bay area is not bad for latin players. there are regular gigs to be had, just not much money, for most of us.
The real paying gigs are in the rich suberbs, and up in wine country (where i am). Its not unusual to get $250 a player. SF or Oakland, you can count on under $150. Unless you happen to be John Santos or Sandy Perez.
Dance classes help with regular weekday gigs, and Ill play for the door at the local bar midweek, once in a while (free beer and lots of pats on the back, mostly)
Yea, you may have to play music from the lighter side of life, but at least there are weekly Rumbas to get in touch with the wild side.
I'd like to hear from Thomas about what its like in Europe. Im thinking of taking my Folkloric ass to southern Spain.
How's the scene in the south of Europe? anyone know?
