I wonder why Marshall's cut is half past the compartment growth section-or what ever it is called. Perhaps helps in resonating ?

I would assume he had a bunch of bamboo with a good diameter but short distance between the nodes. Giving it a good width would just help in mounting the thing, or just make it look better...but whatever, look great, very professional job! Anything but a jam block!

I was thinking the same thing, but when you look at the
photo of the cata on David's stool, it kind of looks like the ends
are left on to make it about the right size??

That's my guess anyways.
