Hi,

I'll be visiting the bay area (staying in Berkeley) and would like to hear some great live latin/jazz music this Tuesday or Wednesday (10/2, 10/3). Also, any suggestions for a drum shop with a particularly good selection of bongos, cowbells, congas, heads, etc.? Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

La Pena is the place for music in Berkeley. Best shop I know for percussion is in SF, Haight Ashbury Music.

For drum heads, contact blango (Tony Sternaud) a forum member here, he is in Berkeley often, also he deals in vintage, rare and high end congas and bongos, he might have something for you.

Try to find out if Jesus Diaz' group is playing anywhere, or Parallel 23 with Colin Douglas on drums. I don't know about the specific dates you will be there, but there is a lot of talent in the Bay area. Some of the other names to look for are groups which include John Santos, Sandy Perez, Javier Navarrete, Fito Reynoso, Erick Barberia, Wayne Wallace, or Bobi Cespedes.
