Need to borrow a Pro Conga for a NYC show (NYC friends?)

Postby Firebrand » Thu Feb 05, 2009 12:26 pm

Guys,

This is an unusual request for me (I own 6 professional congas...so I don't really borrow others equipment), but, I'm playing a show in NYC with a latin-jazz group and three of the musicians are traveling together in a car. I'm bringing 2 of my Patato white congas and I'm using my new Traps Drumset (the portable, skinny one) for the drummer (to save space in the car. The bass player is also bringing his amp and equipment with us.

This is the band that is playing (with some personnel changes) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usQvCVHQzf4

While a 3rd conga is an integral part of the sounds I create in this show, it's impossible for me to bring one due to the other musicians' space requirements in the car. I'll be bringing a Quinto and Conga, so I'm looking for another Conga or Tumbadora.

Is there any of you that may be helpful by lending me a professional conga for use at one show. Any LP Classic, Performer, Matador, or Fiberglass model...as long as the height is the same as LP Patato Fiberglass.

This is the location and details:

Saturday, February 7th, 2009
Billie's Black Restaurant
271 W. 119th st.(Btwn 8th ave and St. Nicholas Ave)
8:00-11:00 P.M.

I don't know if there is a cover charge for this event, but if there is, I will get you in free for your troubles...and buy you a drink as well. In any case, I've wanted to meet some of the NYC percussionists on this board, so this is a chance (I rarely perform in NYC).

P.S. - In case anyone's wondering why I don't rent from a music shop...because I'm making $50.00 for the gig. I'm doing it as a gift for the band leader...because I live in MA and never come to NYC to perform for less than $225.00. So, I will be already undercut in my fee for this event.

Firebrand,

I watched the YouTube video. Cool band! Are the guy on congas?

I wish that I live close enough to be able to help you out and watch you guys live.

Anyway, best of luck on your conga search and your gig!

Yes, I'm the guy on the videos. Thank you for the compliments.

I'm playing a gig that is a mixture of straight jazz with latin jazz...but the material requires a lot of musical colors...it's more jazz than latin, so I really can't "sacale el jugo" to the gig with two congas. That's why I'm trying to find a third in the city. The other musicians on the gig come mostly from the bebop and other African-American jazz traditions, so the gig will "swing" more to their side of things.

If anybody in the city can help me out, you may contact me here. I'll be checking it up regularly.

Take care all!

I can't even fit the bongos. WE're bringing a Traps Drumset, 2 electric basses, Behringer 15" loudspeaker, 2 congas, and 3 people...all in a 4 door, long sedan...we can't spare nothing more...and it's going to be squeezed.

In any case, if anyone, last minute, can make it, the address is at the top of this thread. I'll be playing at 8:00 and it will be greatly appreciated. As long as it is the height of an LP Matador, LP Fiberglass, LP Classic, etc...it should work.

Take care all. See some of you guys in NYC tonight.
