Aloha All in CongaForum land,
AS you all know, our bruddah Yoni is here in Hawaii "tearing it up" showing us locals how its done "Haifa Style". From the get go, the word has traveled here on Oahu thru the music circuit that this dude Yoni, a hot percussionist, is in town from Israel. As a result, bruddah Yoni has been invited to numerous gigs to sit in and dazzle the crowds with his playing. It all started with a sit in at one particular club, with Yoni and his trusty Darbuka in hand. From there, he's been invited to gig after gig! Not wanting to disappoint those who came to see and hear him play, and being the true Yoni fan that I am, I gave him free reign over any drum I had in my arsenal. That's where I got my first start as being a "Yoni Roadie" and fixed him up with some Volcano Percussion Congas. It was the ideal situation for me to sit and learn from what I would describe as an "Incredible" performer.
This past Tuesday, Yoni got to perform with an all star Jazz group at a place called Studio 6. Yoni told me not to bring too much drums, cuz he might just get invited to play on one or two tunes. I told him, "Yeah right, once they hear you play, you ain't leaving da stage!" I was right....
Last night Yoni had one more chance to jam with us at Spectrum Studio, where the Owner Kirk is putting together a fusion jazz group. I manage to pull out all the stops and set Yoni up with a "maSSiv" 6 drum set up, which combined the fiberskyns and the "monsta" Tumba's fitted with steerhides. Yoni even gave this bruddah a crash course in Bongo playing ( Martillo 101). Now I'm an aspiring Bongocero ( the fingers on my left hand is still hurting....Ouch!).
Yoni is a true Ambassador of this forum, and I am proud to call him my friend. Again Yoni, Mahalo for all that you shared with me and my friends.
Keep on Poundin'.... Aloha, maSSivdrums
