Here is a clip from a gig I did last Sunday @ the 30th Anniversary of the yearly Sth American Festival on Bondi Beach, Sydney.
Luis Lugo (lead vocals) originally out of Puerto Rico was formerly one of Ralph Mercado's photographers during the golden era of Salsa in New York. He's got some killer photos of that time.
He has been in the country now since the late 80's.

Luis was approached by the festival organisers to reform SARAGUEY for this event, Saraguey was the most influential and popular band during the late 80's and through the 90's. They played everywhere! And as a little punk coming up in the ranks, I followed them everywhere!
We had limited time to learn the repertoire (7 days) for the 1 hour set, and had 1 rehearsal a few nights before the gig. Shame we didnt have more time. Not bad considering...
Some of the original members were able to do it, the rest were fill ins (myself included). Im on congas.

In the next few days, I'll post up some footage of one of the other bands which were put together specially for this event, where my Madrina/Godmother (Maria Cuevas) performs Celia Cruz's "Bemba Colorada".
Maria is Australia's Queen of Salsa, Cuban born, she arrived here in the mid 70's and exploded onto the scene. She is revered and respected from coast to coast. Maria came out of semi retirement for this gig. I hope to upload it soon.
